What Sensations Are Normal?
– Gum contour around veneered teeth may appear different for a few days.
– Slight color mismatch between the tooth and ceramic may be noticeable but usually fades within days.
– Sensitivity to hot, cold, or pressure may occur and typically resolves in 1–2 weeks. Contact your dentist if it persists.
– Feeling of ‘fullness’ or ‘newness’ when biting is normal due to new shape, volume, and contact points — usually fades in 1–2 days.
– Teeth may feel slightly mobile — this is expected as veneers are individual (unlike solid temporary restorations). The sensation should resolve within a week.
– Mild soreness from anesthesia injection or gum discomfort due to rubber dam — fades within 1–3 days.
What to Avoid
– Do not eat until anesthesia wears off — to avoid biting cheek or tongue.
– Avoid biting or chewing with front teeth.
– Do not combine hot and cold foods (e.g., ice cream and hot drinks).
What to Do
– Attend your first follow-up visit as scheduled. Your dentist will check bite alignment after anesthesia wears off.
– Use a night guard if you have bite issues, tooth wear, or bruxism.
– Follow your personalized schedule for preventive check-ups.
– Schedule professional cleanings regularly.
– Maintain excellent hygiene: brush at least twice daily (ideally after each meal) with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and/or irrigator.
