Immediate Effects You May Feel
– Even after the first stage of treatment, bleeding, itching, and burning in the gums usually decrease or disappear.
– Teeth feel smoother, and any looseness may slightly reduce.
Normal Sensations After Treatment
– Increased sensitivity to hot or cold is common. It is due to plaque removal from the root surfaces and usually fades in 1–2 weeks.
– If discomfort from sensitivity is strong and interferes with eating or drinking, consult your periodontist to choose a suitable desensitizing toothpaste.
– Mild discomfort when brushing or eating is normal in the first 1–2 days.
– If deep pockets or swelling were present, you may notice some exposed root surfaces after healing — this is a normal outcome of treating severe periodontitis.
